At first we were told that we were there to do a short piece for the morning show and the evening program. Me – totally cool, completely nonchalant, I thought we could manage it. One after the other came – but that was the end of my cool calm! But thanks to our leading actresses – Tilda was super cool – everything went like clockwork.

A mega experience, a big thank you to the TV crews and to all the cow cuddlers who participated so freely and openly in this wonderful piece about us.

The call, shortly before noon on a Tuesday. You have a dead calf in your meadow. The heart stops. Impossible.

Hastily called our neighbor. He confirms it’s dead. He would pick it up and put it next to our tractor in the barn. The crows had already pecked at it. I, completely exasperated, thought it was the calf Lissi from January. Because I could never imagine that it could possibly be the too early first calf from our Nikki. Yesterday evening, everything had still been looking quiet and normal. I called the knacker. There came already the next call from our neighbor, call the vet immediately, it is still breathing. Immediately called the vet. The neighbor sends me photos. A calf completely unknown to me lies there. This is all but not our Lissi! It was the new one, 14 days early. Normally, I see it when calving is imminent. Not this time. A heartfelt thank you

Three times grateful.

A first “Eww!” makes the maternal instincts burst out, until then mum Nikki was reserved, as she had given up on her daughter. Milked off the mother Nikki and gave the little one her first colostrum via a syringe. After that we brought the mother Nikki and calf home to the barn. The unnamed calf in the boot of the car and mum Nikki running after the car, on the halter lead by me. 3 days and 2 nights later the baby could stand finally on her own legs and search for her drink at her mothers udder.

Until then, we always milked the mom and fed the little one with the bucket and teat. At least the sucking and swallowing reflex worked most of the time.

Our little drama queen. Everyone takes care of you 🙂 – on the 4th day she was strange again. Not the way she should`ve been. Rapid heart rate, low-grade fever. Again the vet came. After thorough questioning and examination: she has constipation. The phenomenon was completely unknown to me. After her treatment all was well again with her.

The name, a challenge this time, alone, because of the struggle for survival. A suggestion, an abbreviation of a Gaelic name, the little fighter, she is now called Nola. Wonder calf Nola.

The special event: Cow cuddling in Lower Saxony. In Southern Lower Saxony. We would be happy to welcome you. But now the virus has caught us too. Ingo and I will be out for a few days. But, even if we can’t personally, vouchers are still more and more popular – I bet there are still a lot of cow lovers who would like to make their friends, relatives or colleagues happy 🙂

Instead of being with the animals, we rely on our team led by Mimi. And I’m currently reorganizing our website. And so, after a period of reflection, Mia and Rosina got together. Rosina wanders through the woods with her flock, films them and presents it on social networks. Behind this is an association, Strong for Animals eV, which supports the whole thing.

And so, one day last week, Mia confidently walked into the trailer as usual and came out into the woods to join her new herd. It was like arriving at her real family. All sort of black Mias, except for a brown one, with whom she currently gets along best.

And so Mia has arrived super well, and she can also have her calf there and keep it. I would have always wished for a cow life like that. Thank you dear ones, that’s perfect for me. Even if my heart is still a little heavy, it will get easier with time. All the best to you! I am happy if I can visit you.

Our farm animals, the cattle, are very special animals. Our ancestors had a reason why they chose this animal species.

Cattle can produce something valuable for us omnivores from tough, for us completely indigestible greens and their incredible stomachs. An absolute wonder of nature. The milk. Dairy or suckler cows produce milk for their offspring. But the modern breeds produce more and longer than they would need for their offspring themselves.

Why are the cattle from the Flütjerhof particularly suitable for cow cuddling?

Our cattle are incredibly tame because they are part of the family. They are raised like horses and dogs. The cows – that’s what I call them – jump around me like exuberant puppies when I walk checking the fence, for example. They give claws, they use halters, they like to drive trailers. Sometimes they even do it better than our horses!

Why is it so important for adults to get to know cattle?

Who has ever had direct contact with a cow? Raise your hand! Everyone should have sought out a relationship with a cow at some point in their life. These wonderful animals give us so much – or have you ever tried a Black Forest cake without cream?

What distinguishes adults in particular?

As an adult, you are particularly suited to getting to know our cows. You are already cautious for reasons of age – because despite all the familiarity with “their” family, our cattle are very cautious and fearful of strangers. If you jump around too much, they’ll jump away. And a careful and mindful approach is a crucial prerequisite for a “success” of your assembly.

Why is it so important these days to get involved with cattle even as an adult?

We only see the Tetrapak milk cartons, at best the glass bottle with milk if you get it from your organic food store. Who among you knows that only the cow that has calved can give milk? You never get too old to learn something new. In this day and age we are all so alienated from normal life that we no longer even know what it feels like to touch a warm cow – or even cuddle them.

Something you must have done once in your life: cow cuddling.

We offer cow cuddles for beginners. Of course, we don’t just offer cow cuddling for adults, but also for children and young people. Cow cuddling will give you a whole new perspective and be a new exciting experience. Dare you !

What can our cows give you?

Our cows are particularly tame, trusting and affectionate. The warmth, the calmness that emanates from them. The smooth and consistent grind of rumination will charm you. They speak to you on a whole different level.
